About Ian Abeshouse

Ian’s wide-ranging experience and academic background places him in a very comfortable and respected position within the trade. For example, he has been in the jewellery trade since 1973 with extensive experience in many facets of the industry. With a background of opal cutting, employed by a major wholesaler/importer buying and selling diamonds and coloured stones, the manager of the valuation department of Angus & Coote Ltd, operating his own retail business in modern and antique jewellery as well as antique silver in Chatswood. Lastly he decided to apply his considerable skill to the auction industry
as the Jewellery manager and valuer of a well known auction company.

Building on his solid strengths, he commenced Ian Abeshouse Valuations as an independent gemmological and valuation consultancy. In 2002 Ian became a director of A.B.A Associates Pty Ltd as a specialised jewellery auctioneer, preparing regular jewellery and watches sales. This extensive experience in the auction industry has been invaluable in being familiar with the second-hand and antique market.

Ian belongs to many accredited and respected associations/organisations. He is a qualified gemmologist trained at the Gemmological Association of Australia and a graduate gemmologist from the Gemmological Institute of America. He is also a founding registered member of the Jewellery and Allied Trades Valuers Council now renamed The National Council of Jewellery Valuers and since 1996 a director of the board of the Council.

Ian also is a regular lecturer at the Gemmological Association of Australia Jewellery Valuation Course. An essential part of membership of the NCJV is to be current with update education on industry guidelines, research and latest gemstone treatments and testing methods.
